What you can ask
Anything you would normally ask a tracking specialist. A few examples:
- What do I track now, and what’s missing?
- Track every lead in GA4 and make it a key event
- Add a Google Ads conversion for my leads
- Track phone, email and WhatsApp clicks
- Track bookings from my Calendly widget
- Set up ecommerce tracking for my shop
- Is my consent mode set up right?
- Why don’t my form submissions show in GA4?
How it works, step by step
- Connect once. In Tag Manager and GA4 you add one SourceXray email as a user, the same way you would add a colleague: Publish access on the container, Editor on the GA4 property. We never need your Google password, and you can remove the email at any time. To prove the container is yours, you also paste your SourceXray key into it once, as a variable. Every customer adds the same email, but SourceXray only uses it on the container and property you have proven are yours, so nobody else can connect, see or change them.
- We confirm it’s your website. Before connecting, SourceXray checks that the container really loads on your website together with your own SourceXray script, so nobody can connect a container that isn’t theirs.
- Ask in plain English. AI Tracking Setup reads your live container (tags, triggers, variables), GA4 (enhanced measurement, key events, custom dimensions and the events received in the last 7 days), your homepage and the forms that produced leads in SourceXray.
- Review the plan. You get a short explanation plus a plan listing every variable, trigger, tag and key event it wants to add. Event names are editable before anything changes.
- Test build. One click builds the plan in a separate Tag Manager workspace and asks Tag Manager to compile it, then deletes the workspace. Nothing is published.
- Approve and publish. The plan is built again in a fresh workspace based on your live container, so nobody’s unfinished edits get published, then released as a new container version. Key events are marked in GA4.
- Check it live. “Check my tracking” opens your website with a small live checker. Click your phone number, send a test enquiry, and you see every GA4 event your own browser sends. Back in SourceXray, AI Tracking Setup explains what works and fixes what doesn’t.
- Roll back any time. Every publish remembers the previous version. One click re-publishes it.
Why its lead tracking is more reliable
Most form tracking in Tag Manager guesses: it fires on a click or a submit, even when the form failed validation, or depends on a thank-you page that AJAX forms never load.
SourceXray already confirms each form really succeeded, for Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms, Elementor, WPForms, Fluent Forms, Formidable, HubSpot, Webflow, Typeform, Tally, Jotform, Calendly bookings and plain HTML forms. After every confirmed lead it pushes one clean event to the dataLayer:
sx_lead with sx_form_name, sx_builder, sx_channel, sx_source, sx_campaign and sx_keyword.
AI Tracking Setup uses it for your GA4 generate_lead event and your Google Ads conversion, so every conversion is a real enquiry, and you can see in GA4 which channel and keyword it came from. It never contains names, emails or phone numbers.
Safe by design
- Nothing goes live without your approval. AI Tracking Setup only proposes. Publishing is always your click.
- Your tags are never touched. It only creates or updates items named “SourceXray - …”. Your own tags, triggers and variables are read, never edited or deleted.
- Test-built first, one-click rollback. Changes compile in Tag Manager before they can be published, and every publish can be undone.
- No personal data in GA4. It never sends names, emails or phone numbers to GA4, and it respects your cookie banner and consent mode.
- No duplicates. It checks what your container, enhanced measurement and website already send before adding anything.
What it can and can’t do
- Can: GA4 events and key events, Google Ads conversions and remarketing, the Conversion Linker, click, form, scroll, visibility, timer and YouTube triggers, dataLayer, URL, cookie and element variables, ecommerce mapping from an existing dataLayer, and plain-English audits of your setup.
- Explains, you click: GA4 cross-domain settings, custom dimension registration and Google Ads conversion actions (you paste the conversion ID and label it asks for).
- Can’t: change your website’s code or form builder, create server-side containers, or see organic Google keywords (Google hides them from every tool).

What we access and keep
- Your Tag Manager container configuration and GA4 property settings, plus aggregated event counts (never individual visitors).
- Your conversation with AI Tracking Setup, its plans and a log of what was published, so you can review and roll back.
- The results of a live check: page addresses, event names and form types. Email addresses are hidden by the checker.
- Your questions and this tracking context are processed by our AI model provider under terms that don’t allow them to be used to train models. See our Privacy Policy.
